IOT: Into the Fire was the second game created by CivOasis following the suspension of IOT: Here and Now due to time constraints. Its ruleset was considerably simpler and SonRISK-esque, as players were locked into alliances based on their starting faction. The game ran from 5 February–6 March 2012 over five updates. It spawned a (failed) sequel.

Game mechanicsEdit

The game is set in a dystopian 2035, with each turn representing one year. Each province generates 1 'point' that can be used for claims or construction of military units. Players began with 10 contiguous claims, although due to a low player base this was amended to 25 free claims per turn to fill out the map and prevent early-game stagnation.

Military units are divided into armies and navies, the latter able to transport the former at a 1:1 ratio. Combat is determined through a simple RNG of n troops times an integer from 1–2. Attacking survivors are calculated from half the difference between the RNG scores; defeated defending armies are completely eliminated.


Player nations can choose from five different factions that provide bonuses, mainly to combat. Players are permanently allied to members of the same faction.

Terran Revolution—A failed one world government splintered into regional outposts. Can attack/claim up to two territories distant from their borders.

Human Resistance—Independent, decentralized resistance movements. Defeated defending armies can retreat (50% odds), with casualty rates ranging from 0–100%.

Ahuizotl—Genetically-engineered soldiers originally used by the Terran Revolution but that now operate for themselves. Units are amphibious, and so do not differentiate between army and navy.

Maáskab—Technologically advanced alien invaders. Armed forces are twice as strong, but only one army can garrison a province.

Pah—Insectoid hive-minded aliens. Each point produces two units, but each fights at 75% efficiency.


In 2013, the shadowy Terran Revolution launched a global campaign that sought to overthrow standing governments and install a new world order. It used the Ahuizotls as its military trump card, and by 2020 had crippled the old political order, only to be confronted by the arrival of the Maáskab, who drove the Terran leader into hiding. The Maáskab achieved partial hegemony until they were in turn challenged by the Pah, who were able to expand rapidly across the planet. The game begins in 2035 with the warring factions in a state of equilibrium.

The game formally concluded 6 March with victory rankings for the factions and individual nations. An epilogue was promised, but never written.
